How This Course Works:
There are actually TWO different streams within Social Studies: the -1 stream and the -2 stream. Both streams have the same overall focus. The primary difference is the expected level of skills and complexity of understanding students are expected to develop. I teach both streams, and to maximize the learning of everyone, and to make things a bit more streamlined, I have decided to combine the two streams for my website and for my on-line learning sessions. Students can then be exposed to all of the different elements and they can naturally take away from the course the level at which they are able to learn best.
THERE ARE SOME KEY DIFFERENCES
The biggest KEY DIFFERENCE is how students will be assessed. I have designed the assessment pieces according to stream, mirroring the types of assessment activities that will appear on the two different Diploma Exams.
Although I do recommend that students use the internet based Learn EveryWare Modules, I want students to understand that I WILL NOT BE MARKING ANY WORK IN THE MODULES! I know, this has probably thrown you for a loop. I encourage all students to take control of their learning, that way the learning becomes more meaningful and hopefully more powerful and enduring. ALL course marks will be determined by the marks that students achieve in the TIMED ASSESSMENT PIECES for EACH RELATED ISSUE as well as the course final exam. There are 4 Related Issues in the course, so there are NINE assessment pieces. The assessment pieces will ALWAYS follow the same format:
It is important to note that these icons will ALWAYS represent the streams they are attached to on this website, so whenever you see them on other pages of this website, check them out to learn more about your particular Social Studies stream (-1 or -2)
